Personal Profile

Professor Jisong Zhang received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2009 and 2014, respectively. From 2014 to 2015, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the department of chemical engineering at Tsinghua University. He also worked as a post-doctor in the chemical engineering department of MIT, from 2015 to 2017. He has engaged in teaching and scientific research since 2017, and was promoted to associate professor in 2020. He involves in teaching on "Chemical Engineering Design " and "Intelligent Manufacturing of Chemicals" courses.

Research Directions

1. Hydrogenation & oxidation in micro-packed bed reactor

Multiphase flow, transport and reaction in micro-packed bed reactor, and the applications in fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals.

2. Continuous flow manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients

API synthesis based on microreactor, such as cross-coupling reactions, Friedel-crafts alkylation reaction, organolithium reaction, photochemical reaction and so on; Automatic synthesis system based on flow technology.

3. In-line sensing & analysis

Based on excellent transport, low reagent consumption and inherent safety properties of micro-devices, we try to develop in-line sensing & analysis system, including in-line analysis of reaction heat, solubility and diffusivity of gas/liquid system, reaction kinetics, etc.
